Wool vs. Poly-cotton blends

I was shopping for some dress pants last weekend and came across a few I liked. Upon inspecting the tags however, I noticed that they were all poly-cotton blends (40/60) instead of wool and could be machine washed. My current dress pants are all wool and have to be dry cleaned.

Are poly-cotton fabrics any better or worse than wools for pants and jackets? The last time I had poly-cotton pants was when I was young enough to wear them as part of our school uniform.

I hate poly-cotton. It doesn't breathe as well, is scratchy, doesn't look very nice and melts to your skin in a fire. Wool breathes better, keeps you warmer, looks and feels much nicer. It's also much better to be caught in a fire wearing wool.

What? I'm Australian. Bush fires are a real concern.

I agree with the sentiments of the previous replies on poly-cotton.

Viyella is a wool/cotton blend. Does anyone actually have any Viyella shirts? I hadn't heard of the wool/linen blend... I have a few poly/cotton polos. They definitely wear hot...

So I guess the consensus is that poly-cotton should be avoided. Thanks guys.

BTW the store where I was shopping was Zara. My older wool dress pants are Zara also, from two years ago.
