Incredible to me that a teenager from Scotland wore white tie better than the former President of the United States.
No surprise to me.

I am reviving an old thread, but young Mr Carl does indeed look a lot better than Trump and many others I have seen sporting white tie.
Having written that, I am not overly surprised at all, as it is something I have seen over and over again in the last decade. Some young men in their 20s and early 30s put a lot more care into their outfits than the 50- to 70-year-olds. I have seen proper evening cloaks, hand-tied bow ties, opera pumps, long silk socks, and even gold pocket watches, whereas the boomer generation makes one despair. Many (not all, of course) look exactly like Trump: baggy, ill-fitting clothes, probably in an attempt to hide the extra weight they carry around the middle, pre-tied bow ties, and horrid comfort footwear worn with everything including black and white tie. I even saw black trainers with thick rubber soles! The chain of transmission regarding proper dress was broken in the 1960s, and it shows.
I will be heading to Vienna, Austria in a few days, and there, too, the younger generation often pays much more attention to their outfits. Last year, I saw several young men plunk down 1,500+ Euros to buy their evening clothes. The older crowd usually turns up in hired equipment.

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)
