You sir (what we say in the city world) are a beast!! Excellent reply! I couldn't agree with you anymore. Plus, i "dig" how you know EXACTLY when to find the best Macy's sales! lol ( i usually just go on the weekends, all year round) ..or TJ Maxx/Marshalls & even now Burlington sells Polo. But yes, personally i ONLY wear RLP or Lacoste items to the socks... so i found this rather intriguing to read..Good day :) & prep on!

Maybe lacoste is more historical, but I have both and I am definetly leaning for the Polo Ralph Lauren one. Better cut, garment and collar, which is the main reason setting it aside.

The Ralph Lauren ones with massive logo on them are making me having murderous thoughts.

I'm old enough to have 25 year old Lacoste and it's true they were really really well made...

I'm not surenowadays if that statement is still true..

I still love them partly because of nostalgia..

Yes there is, just bought one. They have a silver edition and stretch fit. They don't usually display the stretch fit ones, just ask if there's any available. :)

Neither is upscale, but one with a good pattern is versatile from either brand.

Some very upscale polos make you look old.

Brioni polo shirts are nice, and expensive.

EDIT: I do like Fred Perry for tennis wear, or vintage Fila polos are a nice one.

Lovely thread with a very relevant question.

I realised both brands have very inconsistent qualities. Some Lacoste I bought were totally ruined after washing just a few times, while others I could keep for more than 10 years. PRL same story, even though almost none of them kept their original quality. I bought some PRL in a flagship store in Hong Kong, which seemed very different to the basic ones I used to wear.

Oh, and for another brand: I tried out Uniqlo. I know, I know, not as good, but 1) they keep going for ages, 2) they cost a fraction of Lacoste PRL. And under a jacket or round neck, nobody will see a difference. Strong BUY!

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
