I'm visiting London (live in NYC), and would like to get a double-breasted wool overcoat for the winter. Anyone have any recommendations on where to go? How much would a bespoke overcoat cost at a Savile Row shop vs MTM?

I doubt you'll find that style in London.

I would avoid Crombie. You can try Turnbull & Asser, New & Lingwood, Dunhill, Ede & Ravenscroft, Gieves & Hawkes, Anderson & Sheppard, Drake's etc. etc.

Try Private White and Mackintosh as well. You may also be surprised by the stock of TK Maxx in central London

Out of curiosity, what's wrong with Crombie?
Personally, from their website, the overcoats
are a bit fashion forward with built-up shoulders
for my traditional American taste. Otherwise,
a broad selection

Last year when I was in London, there were some nice classic coats at Chester Barrie, made in Italy if I recall. Seems like this may fit what you are looking for. GBP 1200-1800 if I recall. Bespoke, to answer your question, I would say is GBP5000+.

Try Anglo-Italian in Weymouth Street Marylebone:
https://angloitalian.com/

I just saw a really nice Polo coat (slim fitting) which they do in navy, camel and (if I remember correctly) in herringbone tweed as well.

It's not on their website yet, but here is a picture of the coat being modelled by Jake Grantham (co-proprietor together with Alex Pirounis).

Take a look in Burberry's, too. They had some excellent DB overcoats last Winter and may still as they're more or less a staple.
