Isn't this the case with ALL consumer choices?

Please do not try to act like you are exempt.

No, I'm not exempt at all. To some degree, I buy my clothes based on these factors. Though, I do put quality above those, but most important, above that, whether they look good. That's what it's about for me - does it look good? If someone offered to me, for free, a £500 Hugo Boss sweater, that came down to my ankles, I would politely decline.

Something that might have been missed is that from what I have seen it normally takes a label of some "higher" end to even make a item or items like what SoCal is dressing in. You would be hard pressed to find something like that at Walmart or Target and if you did I would expect the quality of fabric to be of a lesser type.

Like most other members here I would be hard pressed to dress the way SoCal does but one of the reasons I like this site is because there is such a range of ideas from squares like me to trad to people like GetSmart and SoCal, who's personal style I'll never reach. Just the other day there was a great thread on how to wear orange pants, who'd a thunk it but I'll tell ya I might buy a pair now that I have seen how to pull it off(on a side note I have a pair of green pants I bought here but have only worn once, any ideas on how to make greeners work?)

Haha. I genuinely like the first fit with the Rick Hitops (I want a pair so bad) I'm probably not man enough to do the tights, but replace it with tight jeans like some tsubis and I would totally rock that outift.

+1. Similar to starting a thread in the B&S, we need a "you can't comment on SoCal's fits unless you've been here for 60 days" rule.

I'm pretty sure that if you got into a bad car accident, the coroner would be forced to conclude that a Muppet had been banging a middle-aged soccer mom up her poopshoot when they got hit. Just sayin'...

I kinda like the idea of pushing the limits for sweater lenghts for men. But I'm quite convinced the outfit would look better with something else than tights, they don't really fit in with the sweaters. Maybe some semi-wide 3/4 length trousers would do the trick? The tights just makes it feel like you've taken an old trick from the book of girlswear and applied it to yourself (but with more interesting use of footwear).

I am willing to bet anything that somebody with style like that is infinitely more confident about themselves than you will ever be. One of the things I love about this board is that I may not dress like someone who has SoCal's style, but seeing them may open up my mind and help me come up with new ideas of my own. This board is about the celebration of male style. Things are bound to get a little wacky sometimes, and that's a good thing. Free your mind (and the rest will follow!)

I totally respect SoCal for having the confidence and the balls to wear what he wants and doesn't give a fuckin' **** about it. I have lesser respect for guys who start dissing it then starts backtracking once they're confronted. And I have no respect for noobs who use words like "extremely insecure" and "over-compensate" and suddenly has an opinion like Baby Jesus came down and made them the official arbiter of style on Earth.

It's called being polite, not "backtracking". My opinion still stands, with all respect to SoCal, his clothes look ridiculous. I'm sure he is a very nice person. We can all respect people who do what they want, and don't give a **** about it - I do admire that. But what it is they do is not always to be admired.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
