I'm sick as a dog and bored as hell. I need something bingeable but low stakes intellectually. Finished day of the jackal. Any ideas?

The length of time between S1 and S2 of HotD and Severance led me to rewatch both before starting the new season.

About halfway through HotD S2 with my wife and it's so damn good. Been slowly getting through Severance S1 while traveling and finally started the first episode of S2 and seems to have maintained it's quality.

But watching two critically acclaimed shows that are well written with tremendously high production value and stellar casts, there are slow parts to some episodes that IMO aren't as succinct as they could be.

I keep going back to Slow Horses as a show that's perfected the formula. Obviously it's subjective and it may be due to my interest in the genre but to me everything is designed perfectly. It has the right amount of action, humor and even crisp dialogue. There is nothing extra that doesn't move the story forward. Even the shooting/release schedule where they tease you with the new season at the end of the previous one succeeds perfectly at keeping the viewer interested.

Severance is so close to perfect but sadly the writer's strike derailed the production. It sems like they managed to capture the original lightning in a bottle for S2 so I'm hopeful we get maybe two more great seasons and they don't try to keep it going too long.

Great part about Slow Horses is the amount of source material. Mick Herron has ~10 books that clearly translate well to a single season of TV. I'll keep watching as long as the same team keeps producing them.

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
