I'm 4.5 seasons into rewatching Dexter to get ready for the new show. It's been so long that I'd forgotten the various plots, so it feels pretty fresh, and definitely stands up.

How much do you need to know about the games? I considered the show, but was worried it wouldn't be interesting without background knowledge.
I knew nothing about any of the games, although I have heard of Mega Man as it is based on me...

Recently binged Black Doves, overall enjoyed it, and would watch a second season if there is one. Ben Whishaw was particularly good in it.

Still enjoying The Agency, interested to see how this season plays out.

American Primeval was really good...
Peter Berg completely sold me on the realism of the cold and stink.

I thought it was ok. I wasn't shocked when the gritty realism forgot to load at a few major characters' deaths. Berg loves him some overwrought death scenes. I also thought it limped it's way over the finish line and lazily threw out some standard troupes you could coming from orbit. Lazy catharsis never plays well.

But solid.

Yeah, I saw the end coming a mile away, but damn...
The cinematography and gritty realism was very legit.
I also thought the performances across the board were top notch.

I was a fan of Abish, maybe I have a soft spot because I was engaged to a brunette Mormon once ( a female you jerks ).

Just finished season 2 of Silo. Great show. I really hope they can stick the landing and don't spin it out too many seasons. 4-5 seasons seems perfect.

Had the same reaction, but I call it “cheap pathos”.

Still, I’m impressed anyone was willing to take on the story of the Mountain Meadows Massacre.

I saw that 3 and 4 are filming back to back and are mostly written...production on 3 already started.

I believe they intend to wrap it up with the 4.

So hopefully that eliminates the ridiculous wait between seasons that has become so common these days...guessing next season comes late 2025.

Started watching the current season of Traitors (never seen, nor seen the euro versions it is copying), mostly because it had 4 Survivor winners/runners up on it. I understand earlier seasons included non-famous people, but this season is all reality stars/notable individuals.

Conceptually it seems fun. A bunch of contestants from other shows (who have presumably proven themselves successful and good in front of a camera) play a super high production value version of the party game Werewolf/Mafia.

In reality...meh. I think it *could* be good (and maybe the Dutch original is), but it suffers from a few flaws.

1. Everyone is famous, but not everyone is coming from something resembling a game show (where challenges, social manipulation, strategy, etc. are important). A bunch of people are from stuff like The Bachelor or Real Housewives of blahblahblah.

The result is that number of the players kinda suck at the actual game, sometimes literally not understanding what is happening or the implications of their choices. It also means that the good players become easy targets for both the "murder" and the vote-out. That goes double given that the Traitors are not chosen at random--presumably a dumb and boring player wouldn't get picked, and people are more likely be suspicious of cunning/strategic players and vote them out even if they are innocent.

2. The god damn editing. Unfortunately, this thing is not edited like Survivor, it is edited like a terrible Bravo reality show/soap opera.

Extensive replays between commercial breaks (which are beyond obnoxious if you are watching it without ads). Show could cut 20 minutes of content with no ill-effect.

Routinely hiding information from the viewer to create fake drama--its not enough for it to just be a mystery what the players actually do...no...you've got to create mini cliffhangers at every step by editing out the end of every conversation so you have no idea what was actually said. When Survivor does this, they do it to maintain a bit of mystery at Tribal Council--but they still include the logic behind a players' choice. You may not know exactly who they are voting for, but you know who they are choosing between and you know their arguments for each. Traitors loves to artificially create mystery that only lasts 2 minutes before the result is revealed...just makes it hurt to watch.
It is like they are editing it for cable TV where they are trying to make you not change the channel...except it is a streaming-only show. There are no other ******* channels.

2/5. I'm probably going to finish this one out because I'm invested...but zero desire to go watch the earlier seasons. I do enjoy Alan Cummming and his campy remarks though.

The Aussie version was the best IMO but it is fun watching them make the insufferable " Housewives" do gross or physically difficult tasks.
