^ Must have been one of the editions with all those unnecessary and grating changes and additions by Lucas? Never again - it's the Despecialized Editions only (at least until Disney offers up a quality, unaltered, cinematic cut).

Watched Star Wars yesterday with my girlfriend who had never seen it before. The Despecialized Edition of course. It's quite unbelievable really that that original version isn't still available, my girlfriend couldn't really believe it either when I told her. It's amazing how well it holds up in its original form.

I enjoyed this although I found it awkward.

Dennis Hopper is cool but probably miscast as Ripley. For some reason he wears a cowboy hat throughout the movie.
Bruno Ganz is good though.

Dialogue is naive at times. An early part goes more or less like this:
-I've done a lot but, murder, that goes too far
-Don't forget you owe me
-Well, ok

It has beautiful cinematography, as you would expect from Wenders, but I think it does not work so well as a thriller.

^^^ Watched about a third of that a few months back. Not so great, but like you said some good cinematography.

The swinging 60s Christmas Bond (well, if you count Christmas trees, Christmas presents and happy endings, it manages 2 of of 3 - not bad).

Sidney Lumet directs Don Johnson as the client from hell and Rebecca De Mornay (who gets top billing here) as his attorney. The setup might be preposterous, but if you're willing to go along with it, it's rather fun - in that slightly corny 90's thriller way.

Watching this, I just realised that Will Smith is the Charlton Heston of the 60s and 70s, when you look at the amount of sci-fi flicks they've headlined. As for this one, considering how ingrained it has become in pop culture, it's actually not that great. Still, if you like this kind of thing, it might be worth a watch. Now, I don't wanna spoil it, but...

^ That was part of what made me think of the similarities. (I tried to watch The Omega Man recently, but couldn't - it had aged pretty badly, if it ever were any good to begin with. Not that I Am Legend is particular great either.)

A bit uneven, but it has some funny bits and some delightfully quirky ones. And Anderson creates one of his unique universes, with its doll house like sets and sun faded pastels.

i've seen bits of both but i somehow own The Last Man on Earth which is the '64 version, with Vincent Price. It's not bad and it was apparently filmed in Rome so all the zombies are italians haha.
