Wim Wenders's Perfect Days is a slow, subtle and beautiful story of a few days in one life in Tokyo, with wonderful acting. With the possible exception of Cafe Lumière, the most Japanese film made by a non-Japanese director I've ever seen.
We saw the preview before Ferrari! I made the same comment to my wife (about how Japanese it feels, coming from a non-Japanese director). I'm looking forward to watching it.

Watching Chef. It’s a real gem. One of those movies that slipped under the radar at release but everyone seems to love.

Everly, a John Wick-esque movie starring Salma Hayek. 90 minutes of shootings, stabbings, and torture. One of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Sadly not available in Oz yet….still a fan of Wings of Desire the Nick Cave scene is priceless 🤣

Recently watched Golda. It has Helen Mirren playing Golda and her time during the Yom Kippur war. Actually really interesting and kind of gives a perspective on how dire things were in Israel during that time.

Saltburn: Talented Mr Ripley meets Brideshead Revisited. An amazing central performance by Barry Keoghan and great support from all the other excellent cast members, and it looks absolutely beautiful. But... this is an overlong and rather obvious film, devoid of subtlety, that relies on determindly transgressive shock scenes which it still somehow manages to make a bit boring.

@FlyingMonkey watched on stream and the broadcaster rated the movie an 8.5. He’s a movie buff so I trust his judgement (cinematography, sound, color were all great). The absence of morality, the nihilism was very welcomed. Matt Damon was caught if I recall correctly. Coupled with low expectations and reviews that circulated being underwhelming (mixed reviews, gay men were let down while it was too gay for others lol). I remember seeing the trailer and thought it was some coming of age film. Sort of saw it ******* with the bike scene. Personally, enjoyed it albeit a bit disturbed. I viewed it on my iPad, I wonder if the gf would be open to watching this as I think it’d look even better on the big screen via home projector. But I know she dislikes these kind of movies (she REALLY didn’t like The White Lotus since it was so perverse).

Just finished it. An absolute bore. Hardly even properly transgresive.

3000 Years of Longing ( George Miller 2022 ) .

tilda swinton plays a literary theorist on an academic junket to istanbul where she buys a souvenir bottle which turns out to have a djinn ( idris elba ) inside . while she considers her wishes the djinn recounts his adventures on earth ...

the project was conceived of before the pandemic but i wonder if miller understood early on that even as delayed the movie would not be seen in the theaters , it was a colossal bomb on wide release but i don't know many folks that were considering going to the cinema in the spring of '22 . in any case , the movie is hugely cinematic even on a small screen . i enjoyed it so much the first time that i got my old lady to watch it with me again and she enjoyed it too . recommend .
