I need to send a friend a large amount of files (about 10 MB each and added up total to 750MB) and I'm looking for the best way to do this. Does anyone have some suggestions on how I can do this most effectively? I have a few ideas, but none of them are really great.

I'm guessing you can't just burn it to a dvd and give it to him? I think the easiest way is to set up a FTP server and let your friend download it that way. Or send it to him via IRC.

use something like rapidshare or megaupload.

Upload the files then send him the link to download.. otherwise USB or DVD would work fine. Overnight parcel delivery and hey presto!

I prefer sendspace.com and zshare.net (in that order) to rapidshare or megaupload.

Sendspace also has a multiple file uploader so you won't have to zip the files first (you still will have to do it in a few batches, since it has a size limit of 300 MB I think).

Smoke signals and a large hollow log. That's generally referred to as mass data transfer, since both the smoke clouds and log are very large. Colored smoke makes the process all the more efficient, as you can transfer in N-nary, with N being how many colors you can make.

Srs ansr: See if you know anyone with server space and good bandwidth. That would be the absolute best way.
