50/50 Amaro Meletti and High West Rendezvous Rye. Mmm, saffron.

I'm really liking Meletti as a modifier for whiskey drinks. Just a little adds an interesting touch to a Manhattan.

Drinking from those weeble glasses gets a little disorienting after you've had a few. Or more than a few.

srs question... I'm not much of a wine drinker but I do like some deep reds and rarely anything white. I do drink scotch+bourbon etc. Now I've tried and enjoyed ports, as in a stronger red wine basically, so my question is if I don't really like white wines, would I ever like a brandy (generally, cognacs, armagnacs, etc)? Are they closer to being a fortified white wine in terms of flavor or close to a fruity whisky?

Much closer to whiskey. If you didn't already know, it wouldn't necessarily be obvious that they were produced from grapes in many cases.

I'm going to take a stab and say what you enjoy about port is the residual sugar. It's pretty common for people that generally do not like wine to find sweet wine, fortified or not, drinkable for them.

So brandy is like a fortified white wine like Scotch is like a strong beer, i.e. not at all but both are made from barley.

Brandy is a distilled wine whereas Scotch is a distilled beer. Both are not made from barely. Now one wouldnt neccesarily drink the wine or beer before distilling.

Port is a fortified wine where a neutral spirit is added to fermenting wine that causes fermentation to stop leaving excess sugars.

"Both" applies to Scotch and beer, broheim. I'm hep to eaux-de-vie and also how port is made. Brandy is also made from other things than grapes, as in other fruits and also pumice. ;)

So let's be clearer.

Brandy (by which he probably means the likes of Cognac or Armagnac) is to the white wine from which it comes like Scotch is to the beer it is distilled from. FWIW, that beer is referred to as "distiller's beer."
