I was going to post this as well. Last year I stumbled onto another large law firm's webpage (can't find it now) that reminded me of the NY Times. Very clean, simple, black text on a white page - type layout.

edit - Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher

I hate law-firm websites that look like ads for management consultants (or worse yet, have animated animals on them).

I think in terms of pure simplicity and ease for the consumer, Zappos has to be up there because of it's very simple design. You've got your search bar, unobtrusive ads, a wide array of categories - athletic, dress, casual, not to mention that they're separated by gender or even brands. Everything is a few clicks away, and I think it's why Zappos is a well designed site geared for the consumer.

from am SEO/SEM and functional perspective, there is no nice use of flash unless animations are inherent to what one's cpmpany does.
