I've always liked this Red Wing workboot luberjack kinda thing, but less the sneakerish white sole: Seems J. Crew as saved my day:

however, does anybody know what it means when sizing options include "h-m" "and"m", as opposed to the normal, god-fearing D, E, etc? http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product...Code=SHPG00337

H means half, and M means medium. So, 9H-M means 9.5 medium width. It's unbelievable that a company that size doesn't have anyone with one iota of common sense to use the 9.5 instead of 9H.

thanks guys. I think I'll order a J. Crew size "(XIV - (10 x 1/2)h m", or as we say on earth, a 9.5 medium.

For anyone interested, I asked the seller which color the boots he is selling are.

J. Crew has two colors shown:

DarkWood.jpg

"hickory" and "dark wood"

To my eye, his look to be about halfway between the two colors:

When I asked him to clarify which ones he has, he responded:

So I'm guessing his are Dark Wood, and that they have been distressed some and de-shined for the website photo.

No big deal. I'd kind of like to distress/antique them differently anyways.

Yea, that color does seem to be off from what's shown on their web site.

Recently on eBay, I won a pair of tan colored J Crew boots similar in appearance to the Red Wing style. I took some brown Kiwi polish and they darkened up nice. By the way, I usually take a 10 regular and the past 3 J Crew boots fit fine.

Oi! Good catch, and I think you're right. There were some posts on superfuture on these from last year.

i think Jcrew is selling red wings this year, but also have a house brand. this might account for the variations in color.

These have nothing to do with the Red Wing boots they have right now. These are old stock from last season when they had a Red Wing-alike.
