Firstly, there is no bride in this wedding. I am wearing white. Ideally

The the tux i have designed is dark purple with white lapel and pants. The only problem is while the purple fabric looks perfect, it s polyester rayon blend. Considering ill likely never have opportunity to qhere a white and purple tuxedo again, would it look good for onetime wear? My fiance is wearing velvet tux with wool pants (dark green and black)so i dont mine to look cheap next to his superior fabrics. Should i suck it up wear a blue or green or burgundy which i can have in a wool or wool blend? If burgundy ill likely switch to a velvet jack and wool pabt, but then im also not sure that burgundy and white will go together. Sorry for all the meandering question thanks for ant advice.

If your suit fit looks good/sophisticated, it won't look cheap at all. If the fit looks bad/cheap, then no fabric will make a difference. So go with the colors that will make you happy, and focus on getting the fit right. The interesting colors will distract from any notice of fabrics, and nobody will notice the fabric difference. Congratulations & have fun!

First: congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

Honestly, I doubt most people won't really care about the difference in fabrics. Today we're accustomed to seeing plastic fabrics everywhere. From that perspective, I wouldn't worry. If you really like that combination, go for it and have the time of your life!

On the other hand, I would suggest that if you're designing something for your your wedding, wouldn't it be nice to be able to get more than one wear out of it? A purple-white tuxedo is going to be quite limited use, and depending on how that fabric wears, you might not be crazy about the idea of wearing it frequently.

I don't know if you have a history with those colours, so changing them may not be something you want to do. But if you're willing to consider it, why not go for a white tuxedo jacket with black tuxedo trousers? You'd still be wearing white, and the trouser colour would tie your outfits together. Alternatively, if you really want the purple-white color, maybe a white tuxedo jacket with purple trousers - trousers are not as expensive, and you would be able to use the white jacket with black trousers in the future. It gives you the color scheme you want, you can (hopefully) get a white wool or velvet for the jacket, and the trousers can be the crazy bit.

But as @onemoretime wrote, if the fit is good and you're loving it, you can get away with most things. It's your wedding, after all.

Thank you both for the replies. I think i place to get both a dark purple and emrald green velvet tuxedos so that may be new preference. I was always jealous his preferrwd color had a velvet option. I may check out some white jacket purple pant otions as well. Thanks again!

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
