I'm often confused about Canadian and UK widths. Is an E the same as a US D? or is the Canadian the same as US? thanks. Reference below.

Same here, I can never keep that straight in my head. I'd love a pair of Canadian shoes but I'm afraid I'll open the eBay box and the width will be all wrong.

I love those shoes. Have been looking for one in size 9E or 9.5D on eBay. So far no luck.
I got a black pair a couple of years ago and the brown version was a grail pair for me. I got these from @gorebug. Love them.

The UK system also confuses me. I am 8.5eee for most US brands. I have 8.5F and 8G in UK brands.

For Canadian brands, no dead on match.

In general:

Canadian D is US D
Cdn E is US E
Cdn F is US EE
Cdn G is US EE/EEE
Cdn H is US EEE

Of course also depends on last. I have a pair of Dacks 8.5G that are rather snug. Another pair also 8.5G seems wide.

Best to try them on where possible.

I am also more flexible on fit. I don't like snug and don't mind giving my toes some wiggle room. As long as my heel is secure and feet don't slide around. If loose, I tighten up with a half insole or wear no show socks under dress socks.

Hi Guys:

What Suit said is right. The old Brit number style is somewhat confusing to anyone not informed. For example, 495 would be 9.5D UK which is usually 10.5D US. The first number is the width followed by the size followed by the fractional size. The width numbers are A through H, that is 1 through 8. So 5100 is 11E US.
Trust the Brits to get complicated, eh?

Wouldn't it be nice if Alden could re-create the Yuma? The price would be about the same as this and the demand is there. @jpm1 can you check with them and see if they could do a production run for it?

Rancourt currently makes a venetian loafer (you can MTO a shell version) and it is better than the Yuma in my opinion. If you want to stay true to the Yuma DNA Rancourt's construction method more closely aligns with the original.

Does Rancourt use Goodyear welting? I have a pair of penny loafers and they’re Blake rapid stitched.

The Florsheim Yuma is also Blake Rapid. Bedo's recently did a rebuild and mentions it here:

I wonder if Rancourt or Alden could do something closer to the old Yuma's profile, which I think is really sleek and well balanced. The current Rancourt Venetian just doesn't look very elegant IMO.

I didn't know that about Yumas, unlike some people I haven't actually seen or held a pair, much less two

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
