The press release used the word "synergies" several times.

We'll see if the deal goes through. It'll be interesting what Sprint and Verizon will do after this. Less competition is bad for the consumer.

So I guess AT&T wants all the GSM coverage in America

I wonder how this will affect Android since T-Mobile always pushed the latest versions and "halo" phones.

Could AT&T make a new push with Nokia and Microsoft?

i was actually talking about this the other day with a co-worker. he thought it wouldn't be possible for AT&T to try to buy out TMUS...

looks like a 3-4 "major carrier" end-game is about to come into fruition.

Undoutably this will not improve a pathetic quality of US cellular service. Consumers will be shafted again, just like with not so High-Speed internet at 50.00/month or not so HD cable at 150.00/month.

if (make that a big IF) this passes regulatory approval, we're talking about 9 months to a year at least for that to happen. By then, the world will be over due to the whole 2012 thing. So no need to worry.

I much prefer an US Sprint/T Mobile combination. It'll be a de facto duopoly after the ATT deal is done. Hope this deal won't pass regulatory muster.
