I have this weird idea of making a double breasted navy suit in this HEAVY Fox Barathea

Fox Brothers Dark Navy Barathea

Part of Fox Brothers' eveningwear collection, this classic Barathea is available in dark navy & black. This traditional textured cloth is woven in 100% pure new wool, and is perfect for formal tailoring.

I love the super dark navy, really havent found anything similarly dark so far, and I believe it has enough texture to even work as a seperate jacket. What do you guys think? Am I completely over the line here?
Does anybody have other alternatives that are similarly dark and have enough surface texture to seperate from High Twist Trousers?

Drapers has a 6-ply range in the Ascot book, I think its 500g or so and has a decent amount of visible texture.

Its not necessarily high-twist, but the Dugdale Fearnaught bunch is also 500g

I did post it in the ongoing thread but haven’t taken delivery yet. Should be ready before my tailor returns in April.

I think @Crispyj has a 6 ply suit and may be able to chime in on how it works for suiting.

Drapers 6ply is heavy but breezy at the same time. Very nice as a suit but wouldn't work outside of transitional weather.

Sounds like a Florida peak winter suit / jacket. Not practical for summers in New York and too breeze for winters in New York. Perhaps it’s okay for the spring & maybe fall.

(same with drapers ascot 4 ply.)

having a midnight barathea from Smith Wollens as smoking, it certainly is more navy. It is however a very dark navy.

I thought the general consensus was that 6-ply was intended (or maybe just optimal) for jacketing? Trousers work well enough for you?

I have a 6-ply in the dark brown and its excellent for trousers, there is some texture, but nothing to push it into jacketing. I did have it made with lower patch pockets to use the coat separately though.

Other than navy 6ply for a blazer, I agree it's better for suiting.

Dug this lovely bunch out of my tailor’s cupboard. Looks like two linen trousers are going to be made up for Spring and Summer. W Bill Tobacco linen and this mid gray

I think I saw someone say these folks make up W.Bills Irish Linens? Is it normal for these to be 75cm wide compared the standard 150cm

Could be an older cloth, the standard width for Spence and Bryson Tropical is 145cm as of this time of writing. But I have seen 'vintage' Tropical lengths in the 75cm width.
