We don't talk a lot about raw denim these, but why not? Everyone needs a pair of raw denim in their wardrobe, no matter how evolved and esoteric your taste level has become.
RRL
RRL - Ralph Lauren's 'serious' line - makes some great denim, although they've recently shifted away from Japanese fabrics towards special run, America Cone Mill denim. Impeccably made with a decent-fit, RRL produces a high-quality product at a medium price-point. Hidden rivets, chain stitching, these have all the bells and whistles you'd want from a basic pair. The line also releases some very small-run vintage-styled pieces: baggy, straight-legs with buckle-backs.
LVC
We don't really have a dedicated LVC thread, but this one comes close. Levi's Vintage Clothing - Levi's serious repro label - has become a little more mainstream these days, releasing lots of Made in China garbage, but their US Made, Cone Mill denim signature cuts ('47, '66) are still classics. Everyone needs a pair of Levi's.
Momotaro
Momotaro has two labels: their main line, and their slimmer, Japan Blue offshoot. Both labels produce exceptionally made, high-quality denim with unique Japanese fabrics. The Going to Battle stripes are a cool bonus too. Once you've moved passed the intro level denim: RRL, APC, etc., this should be your next step.
