Thoughts on this Barbour bag? Looking for something smart yet casual, I work in a non finance or law job

fyi, this one is $180 after a 10% discount, so I'm not looking to compare it to a RL Purple Label bag

Tired of lugging my laptop around in a black samsonite laptop bag

I don't think it looks very cool. There are better bags. Barbour, although a good maker of jackets, now produces a lot of accessories in India that are just OK and nothing special. They seem to be just going for a price point and not value/quality.

This particular one is made in China. For roughly the same price point as the J Crew bag, do you think the J Crew bag is of higher quality? I don't know where the J Crew bag is made.

WTF is price POINT?

See this 'point'less phrase used all the time on this board.

Can you not just say 'price'?

It is a common expression used in place of saying a manufacturers price range target to reach a certain buyer. It means something more than simply price.

Looks fine, but for a little bit more consider buying something made in the USA -

I would go with birdman's suggestions. Both the bags and brands seem more solid.

Waxed cotton attracts lint, has a petroleum smell, and has to be "re-proofed" for water resistance every couple of years. I owned a Barbour Beaufort jacket that was beautifully made, but I only used it for bird hunting. I would think that for daily use, leather will be more practical and will age better.

You used a Barbour for bird hunting in NC? You must have roasted!

It's been several years since I did this, but the season runs through the winter. Definitely cold enough in December/January.
