If you aren't peacocking for puss, what are you peacocking for? Anyway, Ludvico, I had a question, man. Do you sometimes mix your clothes that are four sizes too small for you with the ones that are four sizes too big for you? I think it would create a nice silhouette.

Isn’t Seattle where Amazon headquarters are? I’d expect some tech bros dressed head to toe in designer clothes. Although many in the IT sector couldn’t care less about clothes tbh.

Yes, it is, and the head to toe designer tech bro is the exception, not the norm. What I've learned over the years is that many in the tech community who do want to polish themselves up a bit, pay someone to pick their clothes for them. The only identifiable group who dress somewhat well, are the people imported from outside of Seattle who work at Nordstrom HQ. You generally know them when you see them.

So, it's the "couldn't care less" path that rules. Which is fine, but not that inspiring.

I like checking in on this thread a few times a week to see how people in my age group are enjoying their clothes. I have dabbled on a range of platforms where fashion content is posted, and sometimes discussed. It's different here and I don't think the quality has really gone up or down for the most part. But I agree that younger people will not come here because there is just not enough of their peers to relate to, in my opinion. They are locked in to Discord for chats and their show and tell remains there walled off, and for the more confident, spreads on TikTok, and to a lesser degree Instagram, which is a dying platform held up by a dwindling number of Gen Y users.

I think as long as there is discussion here on SF, particularly brand discussion (as materialist as that is), and outfits being posted, SF can chug along for many years to come with growth from Google search. Reddit's implosion as a platform has probably been a good thing for SF, as it's the closest thing to a substitute for our age group.

Will also vouch for using Brave browser to browse the forum. I have zero lag on any of my devices.

Not only that but I used to be under the impression that a large part of the motivation to look good / dress well was to be appealing to the opposite sex (or the same sex for those inclined) but for more than a few posters on SF I’d be surprised to learn that they’ve ever had sex - and if they have, they’re certainly not using their clothing to get some!

I just got back from the Canary Islands and am jet-lagged as **** but ...

This is an old SF trope and not wrong. I don't dress to impress women or men, but to look good in what I think is an appropriate manner for the situation. That said, I enjoy that my clothes or myself attract women.

With the new advances in geriatric ED meds, some of us still want to get laid.

Tangential, but this isn’t true by any metric. It might not be the sole or dominant platform for the younger generations, but still has 500M daily active users and 2B monthly with revenue last year around $50B. Hardly dying, I’d say.

Miami is also a fashion wasteland, you see middle age dudes dressed like teenagers and women in their yoga pants full on athleisure. It's pretty depressing.

I see plenty of tech bros in designer hoodies. Those are for when they're dressed up for going out though.

Long before Amazon invasion, Seattle has always dressed pretty terrible. Fancy clothing meant pricey parkas from REI or maybe dressing like you're about to head off to the wilderness in Filson gear. I may be somewhat guilty of the Filson thing occasionally.

There's is a subset of folks doing the expensive denim thing. Also someone's buying all those Aldens from Brick & Mortar.

Dressing for women is incredibly boring. Wear a patterned shirt with the top few buttons undone, some slim jeans and whatever footwear. White sneakers always work well. You don't need to spend a lot of money or effort on any of those items; just go to a nearby fast fashion store. When it comes to hair short is king. Long hair works for specific types of women. See how boring all of this is? Imagine if this thread was filled with these fits.

When you're this deep into the hobby a simple pair of slim jeans from H&M isn't enough. I'm much more interested in how Boris Bidjan Saberi has perfected his jeans over the years by slightly altering the fit and material of them every season and applying different treatments. I realize no woman is gonna give a **** but it makes me happy.

I don''t disagree, and especially working from home on the Idaho/Washington border, I dress strictly for myself. That said, the majority of straight guys, myself included, don't feel the need to not incidentally dress (and be in a shape) completely repellent to women. But yes, in useless poll after poll, fit but not overly jacked, in a solid white, grey, or black tee, clean well fitting jeans, and good sneakers seems to be the sweet spot for most women, regardless of age, race, or socio-economic status, at least in the US. Throw on a leather jacket or somethng resembling a casual sports coat if you are going out, and you can call it a day.
