As for manual wind vs. automatics for purists...to me it really depends on the watch. Sometimes its nice to be able to view the entire movement at once and not have part of it covered by a rotor...but if a watch has a nicely finished rotor (gold or platinum) and the movement is equally beautiful...then I could be happy with a watch being a manual or automatic.
Case in point here IMHO: I too like being able to view a wonderfully finished movement not obscured by a rotor, but if the rotor looked like this skeletonized version from the AP 15202ST, I really like it.

I mean, I'm as big of a Patek fan as they come but I would have wished the cal 324 on the 5711 came with a skeletonized rotor!
