Just got my first "Swiss miss!"

Feeling great about my choice. The gen 1 yachtmaster loses something in pictures but I love the tone on tone aesthetic in person.

Got the iconic tool watch look, but a little different then the standard sub, which is exactly what I wanted.

Great choice. I just heard that this version may be discontinued. I already have mine the same as this which I keep for high days and holy days. I know some people think a sports watch has no place with a suit but I think this is classy and refined enough (and slim enough) to work well.

I think it's hard to stand on traditions like not wearing a sports watch with a suit more and more these days. In an era of casual-everydays, althleusire and internet connectivity, such traditions begin to appear almost anachronistic.

In a desperate attempt to keep selling suits, designers are now telling us to pair them with white sneakers and tee shirts for a more modern look.

Personally, I tend to look more at proportionally and comparative quality of elements when assessing "what works" stylistically - as opposed to standing on tradition. If it slips under your cuff and is at least as well crafted as the suit, I say "why not!"

i agree with your observations, do you have any links for this styling recipe? it seems people have been doing this since the 80s and back then they'd do it with a DB!

imo the problem is not the shirt and shoes, it's modern worsted suiting. i have to meditate on this a little more but i've given some thought to the *problem* of the suit.... compare suiting from say the 60s or 70s with new stuff and across the board the older stuff is coarser but also less particular in certain ways. thing were pretty casual back then too (before my time but i think the SC was king in those days and it should be no surprise that brands like omega and rolex realized themselves in that environment)

my suspicion is that at some point the race to the finest micron has screwed it all up. i'm not sure that the premise of the modern suit is all that compatible with the premise of modern suiting. think of how far wool breeding and sorting (absolutely elemental to the final product) have come but the suit remains frozen in either the 50s, 60s or 70s depending on designer. to be continued...

(not in this thread tho! no worries!)

We can look at what Alexandre Mattiusi recommends for his suits as a fairly zeitgeist example of where the dress-casual French sensibility is headed:

Velcro and all...

Then if we look to the Italians, here is how Brunello Cucinelli is displaying one of his newer suits:

In either of these situations, I could see a very wide range of watches feeling appropriate, even that Cassio retro digital that the Italians have been anachronistically flocking to lately.

As for the looks designers are trying to push on us in an effort to justify us buying more suits, the 2 looks you posted, IMHO look like they are trying too hard, and I don't really like either of them.

I don't feel obligated to wear a dress watch only with a suit, or a sports watch with only casual clothing.

I feel great about the watch, and the dealer I bought it from.... but I'm still kind of shocked at the (lack of) service I got at my local AD.

I can't imagine they get many people under the age of 30 walking in, trying to spend more then the yearly salary of people in developing nations...

And while they were polite in the shop, they never answered my questions or responded to follow up emails, beyond an initial bolierplate response. If the death of retail really is coming, it's well-earned.

Looking to pick up my first Rolex......any non AD dealers you can recommend in Atlanta? I have browsed Swiss Watch Expo and Capetown Diamonds online. Both have pretty extensive selections and prices seem to generally be the same. However, I have no idea if either is truly reputable for a $5,000+ purchase.
