Sorry my friend, we will have to agree to disagree as to which design is better (even though my view is correct ;)). A very long time ago I wrote several posts about the L1 vs the Pano. In summary, if they were sisters, the Pano would be ugly one with a mustache who tries to be like her pretty sister!

I owned both at the same time and wore the GO more. The date execution is WAY better.

Wore the parmigiani most of the today but kind of surprised. Not really loving it so far. Dunno why. Leaves me kind of cold like a lot of JLC?

Weird since I loved it at the AD lol

Dropped off the 16600 SD at RSC NY last week. Price for an overhaul is now $850. Last time I serviced a Rolex was 2016 (my GMT from the same era as the SD). Total overhaul was $600.

For reference a couple years ago I dropped off my Tudor Pelagos for an overhaul before selling it and I'm pretty sure they just fit it in between oil changes and tire rotations. Tudor overhaul was $325 in 2023.

After reading about exorbitant service costs of some brands, Rolex is perfectly reasonable IMO.

We looked at both when my dad was buying one. We both liked the case, the dial design, and the movement far more on the L1. To me the Pano just came off as a lesser imitator. Perhaps I also value originality too much, but if the best thing one can say is that the date execution of the Pano is better...well to me it's like a teacher in school giving the kid he saw cheating off of his class mate an A+ because not only did he "Borrow the right answers" he had neater penmanship than the kid he cheated off of who got the A.

I respect GO as brand and there are pieces I'd consider owning, but I've never liked the Pano.

Counterpoint: the visibly curved date wheel and lack of borders between the two digits on the Pano is uglier than the stepped alignment of the Lange 1. Neither is perfect, but GO’s solution comes off as markedly lazier.

That Tudor overhaul is super affordable! It was around $275 to service a GMT Master in 1990/91.

The Rolex has steadily increased their service prices. $850 isn't crazy, but it really is not that far off from an AP Royal Oak 15400,15500, 15510 which is about a $950 (although it is extra if you want it polished). Jumbo/Extra-thin or complicated pieces are more.

So far for time only models the most reasonable cost for servicing time only pieces is Cartier. Last year my CPCP Tank XL was $500 to service. I also had my Santos serviced at the end of 2024 as it was losing time after about 5.5 years of solid use. Not keeping time properly and needing a service was covered under the 8 year extended warranty.

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
