Found this article to be interesting.
does not appear that they are producing a lower quality product for certain distributors?

Just bumping this. The link is now broken, does anyone have an archive of it?

I've been fortunate enough to get to know the Canali distributer in Australia and I used to be up-to-date with deciphering the model numbers, which gave great confidence in buying second-hand suits online.

Post COVID, Canali knowledge is a bit rusty and is out-of-date.

In the past, the best Canali fit for me was the 52 drop 7 (model number 13XXXX) and the 52 drop 8 (model number 14XXXX). But I recently picked up two unlined, unstructured sports jackets with the following model numbers in size 50:

A Canali 'Shacket' L 30274 : 50 - R (no drop)
A Canali 'Jersey' L J0147 : 50 - R (no drop)

In their older, traditional models a 50 is way too short for me. These newer models in a size 50 fit beautifully.

I haven't been buying Canalis for a while (their cuts don't really fit me well) but was surprised to read about the fabric used in some of the "Nuvola" line of jackets from them. I'm not really familiar with this line at all.

63% viscose, 37% polyester

But maybe that's just an outdated bias on my part assuming synthetic fabrics automatically = bad quality? I noticed 100% wool versions at the same price point. Is this just new tech?

Wool version:

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
