I'll reserve final judgment for IRL but I am thinking of it more as a colorway than a faux-anything. It's just a choice of color to me.

This is where I'm at with it, unless the whole watch is made to look intentionally older, liked scratched up, faux aged dial (with scratches), etc, it's really just a color choice that either works or doesn't.

Like the Geophysic I had technically had faux patina by some standards, but it worked on the watch and IMO, looked better than if it had standard modern blue/green lume.

Seems more like the other way around to me; they wanted to fauxtina and came up with a tan earth toned color scheme as a result.
I remember one of the higher ups at PP did an interview and stated that the look of this watch and other Calatravas that were released at the same time were designed to give it a more casual every day aesthetic as opposed to the more dress watch look that most people associate with the Calatrava line. That was one of the reason for the dial texture and the colors they chose.

Speedys and subs have white lume and are casual

The dial texture and color is casual. The lume color seems like a separate and unrelated topic.

Well, lots of companies give these long floral explanations or justifications for their choices, but at the end of the day an ugly watch is still an ugly watch. Honestly, I think their were more watches in Patek's collection that I liked 20+ years ago than there are today.
