Why did you sell all your Pateks, but keep your 40mm Rolex as your only watch? (If that’s the story…not sure I’m remembering correctly.)

Don't know about "the story", and don't care either: everybody has his tastes and preferences, and is entitled to express them here.
I just politely said that, in my opinion, a 34 mm size seems too small on a modern watch. One can obviously dissent, but to put it in respectful words is appropriate and necessary. I'm not here to argue and won't answer to low provocations.

Anyone that says 34mm is too small for modern taste is a moron. There are too many dummies running around wearing oversized watches and blaming horrible wrist shots on perspective. 31mm is a perfectly respectable and attractive size on nearly every man’s wrist. That’s why the Patek 96 was made until the late 80s in the form of the 3796.
I’m guessing you have dainty wrists!

I'm personally not terribly bothered by the presence or lack thereof of a seconds hand on my watches. It's another design element to scrutinize and critique, I suppose, but if well executed I see no problem. The 5711's seconds hand is pretty nondescript; it doesn't have any particular pertinence to, say, the other hands or any specific design element on the dial, but it's also not so jarring and out of place that it looks wrong. It's nothing special and not particularly noteworthy, which I suppose is better than being noteworthy for the wrong reasons.
True it's not so jarring that it is wrong. In fact there have been more decades of Nautilus models with a seconds hand than without, so we are all probably more used to see a Nautilus with a seconds hand than without. The 3700 is not my favorite version of Nautilus, but its lack of a seconds hand is something I prefer, as I find the seconds hand on the 5711 needlessly adds an element or business to a very clean design.

Hmmm…agree to disagree. (Looking at a caseback is fun, but not functional, and I wouldn’t suppress a current affection based at on some notion of precedent: “…… didn’t have them.”
Yes, we will probably have to agree to disagree. I'm wasn't suggesting that you or anyone else should suppress a current affection based on a notion of precedent, as we all value design elements of watches differently. As mentioned above, the 3700 isn't my favorite Nautilus, but the lack of the seconds hand is a feature I prefer over the 5711. I think it gives the watch a cleaner look. I find there are several watches that look cleaner/better without a second hand than with one, but I know that most people prefer them. A seconds hand is more functional than looking at a case back, but I never miss having a seconds hand when I wear my 15202, Tank LC, or other 2 handed watch.

Man, this watch proves that case size measurements are just about useless.

Honestly, the conversation a few days back about dial diameter versus case diameter made me realize that 34mm on a dress watch with an extremely thin bezel and small lugs probably has a dial size similar to a 36mm Datejust or a 40mm Sub. Makes me want to go out and seek a 34mm Calatrava out for consistency in my collection.
