Watches are like women -- I fall in love with a different one every day. Right now my latest obsession is the Vacheron Constantin Overseas 4500v (3rd generation). Definitely the least heralded (and most available) luxury sports watch from a holy trinity manufacturer, but I like its aesthetics more than the Royal Oak and the Nautilus. Anyone own one or tried it on in a shop? I think it might be available at a considerable discount in the near future.
I love that watch with the blue dial. IMO so much nicer than the PP (looks like a seventies TV set, and what’s with the ‘ears’?) or the RO (sick to death of seeing them on here - they replaced the Panerai as the ‘double monks’ of watches. Pure saturation probably soon to be followed by denial!)

Anyway that would be my ‘one watch’ if I was to start over. I love the Maltese cross bracelet links too and there’s a very cool system of replacing the bracelet with the rubber strap which does not involve spring bars. So I went to the shop on Mad Ave - they didn’t have one in but showed me a different VC lux sports watch with the same colour dial and I have to say I was underwhelmed. It may have been the poorly lit shop but the colour just didn’t pop for me the way I was expecting. Looked a fairly bland navy when I was expecting something with a bit more elan. Maybe not like my smurf blue sub but something with a deep metallic 3D something or other. For $16-20k I better not have any reservations at all if I’m throwing down that much dough. Definitely try before you buy if it’s the blue you’re after!

I’ve tried on the chronos for the VCO line. The watch looks great in pictures but looked awful on my wrist. I think the original 222 works way better in terms of design and size.

I've already heard of people being offered the 3rd generation Overseas at a discount. My favorite part about the watch are the new dials. The blue is really handsome in person. I thought the textured dials, hour markers and hands on the 2nd generation models were ugly. The current watch has some nice features but I don't love the bracelet. I find the repeating Maltese Crosses a bit garish and a bit to much brand advertising.

As for looks, I don't like it as much as a RO, but it is a big improvement over the 2nd generation Overseas. I agree with @Texasmade , their 222 was a far better watch in terms of design and size.

+1 :fistbump:

Yes, I had heard it was being released again this year. My SA had shown me some photos of the skeletonized version, but I think it may be a piece that works best with a traditional dial (although, I will wait to see it in person before making a final judgement). I will say in the photo you referenced, it looks like there are dots under the 12 and the 6. I do not understand the purpose of that. Still overall a really handsome watch.

@Dino944: Do you know what kind of discounts were offered for the 4500v? I think it would have to go below $15K for me even to consider it. I worry that buyers priced out of the 5711 and 15400 (on gray and pre-owned markets) may turn to it as an alternative.

I like the 222 as well, but it's too small (37 mm) for modern tastes. The 4500v seems to be the closest of the three Overseas iterations to the 222.

The 222 wears larger that the diameter suggests, but it would be well above $15K you mention. They are very rare and highly sought after by collectors.

Buyers priced out of Nautilus and RO have already been going to the Overseas for several years. But more specifically, since the 3rd gen blue dial was released, some dealers were not discounting the blue dial version due to interest from buyers who wanted a blue dial Nautilus and RO and could not get one. The guy who was offered a discount on one with a blue dial because things were slow at his AD for the last few weeks, but it did not bring the price to under $15K.

DavidSW is offering a blue Overseas for <10% discount. Yeah, that's not going to sell in this market. I can afford to wait.

The guy who was offered a deal on a blue dial from an AD was offered 15% off. That sounds like a better deal than the used one at DSW. That being said, even at 15% it is still above the $15K you mentioned.

The older ones look better for sure, especially seeing Roni's pics of a few variants.
