For you coverall owners out there, what are some of your gripes, or maybe things you could change/add? I'm curious!
Love mine (the emerald green one). As other have mentioned, the sizing is weird. I sized down and it's still plenty roomy through the body and sleeves with chunky knitwear. It has a much boxier, shorter fit than my Barbours. That's probably my main complaint: I wish it was a little longer — mine is too short to wear over tailoring, and the sleeves are on the short side of acceptable, but the next size up was massive through the body and still not long enough to wear over a tailored jacket. But I agree with others that the detailing and quality is much better than a Barbour, and it's a lot warmer and weightier too. The collar is thicker and more substantial. The hardware is serious business. I also like the rounded shape of the pocket flaps. All in all it just feels like a different level of quality.

Another thing I don't love is the cloth they chose for the quilted lining. The plaid oxford cloth is lovely and a nice contrast to the more robust waxed cotton exterior, but it gets dirty quickly if you wear denim with it a lot (as I do), and it's kind of hard to clean. I'm just resigned to the lining looking kind of grubby now.

One last thing to note (a positive in my opinion) is that the exterior fades beautifully with wear. I wore mine a lot the first two years I had it and it's developed a beautiful patina to rival Barbours I've had and worn regularly for 10-15 years.

Gents,
On the topic of coveralls, i have long weighed up the pros/cons of emerald green vs 'Barbour sage' green variants, while i believe a chap here once commented there were in fact coveralls in three different shades of green. I currently have the emerald and though it looks beautiful when wearing around the house (as you do), outdoors, particularly if the sun dare come out, i fear it is just a little too loud (and/or perhaps too emerald..?), and so was considering moving it on and replacing it with one of the other quieter varieties. Does anyone have a comparison shot of all three?
I suspect there is a 'long coverall' in one shade, and then shorter versions in emerald and the other green....but at this point my mind boggles.
Thank you all.

As far as I know the standard coverall (with quilted lining) was and is only available in emerald green.

The long coverall (both the older version with side pockets as well as the newer version without) is a darker, more typical olive green.

The summer weight coverall (without quilted lining) was somewhere in between. Not quite emerald, not quite olive. However, that version is not available anymore. Perhaps Drake's will bring it back at some point.

Early on there was a version in Blackwatch tartan.

I have one in navy and completely love it. Almost no complaints after a year of heavy use. It’s aging beautifully and is surprisingly more versatile than I’d expected. It’s basically the only jacket I wear fall spring and winter days that exceed 40F. Like others have mentioned it’s heartier than barbours. It’s quite hefty in the best possible way. my favorite feature though might be the enamel snaps and pocket design.

Sometimes I find it a pain ********** to zip with the extremely but delightfully chunky heavy duty double zip. I also don’t love the lining as the white gets dirty, but I also kind of dig the grime in a way. Also a slightly warmer pocket lining like moleskin would have been cool but I also see why they didn’t want to winterize it too much.

Overall I find it to be the most versatile and wearable jacket in my closet. Super expensive but possibly worth it to me.

Probably not great over a blazer though cuz of the shorter length. Lots of dudes want to throw it over a blazer but I personally can’t wear mine over even my games blazers (same size in games and coverall).

And another fit question, a tougher one. This is the navy pinstripe Games from this season, sold out within a week or so. I studied the sizing chart before ordering online, and got a 44, so one size larger than my tts. Thinking also that I’d wear this with rollnecks a lot.

It is a bit on the larger side I fear. Really on the fence now on keeping it or shortening the sleeves and leaving it as is. It has a bit of an old man vibe now, or an oversized 80s blazer, which I do not mind but just wanted to check if it doesn’t look odd or anything. Thanks!
Probably the opposite of what others here would say, but I'd return the raglan and keep the pinstripe. The raglan looks like nothing special, and the pinstripe has flair. And I own a lot of Drake's.

I found this old Drake's oxford shirt style that I quite like the look of. Does anyone know if Drake's will bring it out again, or something similar, for the S/S season?

I don't know the answer your question unfortunately, but wanted to say this shirt is a good example of how Drake's does stripes so well. The alternating colors and widths softens the look in a very charming and irreverent way. They've done similar patterns for linen shirts in the summer recently so maybe look out for those.

Something similar, likely. They always do striped shirts in S/S. And usually there are some from the previous seasons in the archive sales.

If you google Drakes Multi Stripe Shirt you’ll likely still find this available at some outlets that sell drakes, esp in the EU. I found this shirt popping up a bit when looking for a different Spring Summer Oxford Drakes released last year. It’s worth a shot, esp if you are in a Small or XL size.

I got the shirt (and exchange) through the website. Put a couple pics below for reference, the dot is small, but it's black on a cream/white shirt so you can see it 5-10 feet away. There's also a weird red mark on an arm. I fully recognize the potential I'm being too picky. I try not to be as I am weary of others expecting perfection from welted shoes for $300. But in my closet of dozens of OCBDs from many other brands I simply haven't seen this.

When do we expect the next archive sale? Which time(s) during the year are they likely to run archive sales in general?

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
