I feel exactly the same about the drakes balmacaan, i just love the overall design. I have the balmacaan from PWVC/PS as well as the double breasted tweed coat and both are fantastic. Been toying with just buying one of the navy versions of these instead. Leaning toward the donegal navy for the weight, mostly.
If you want to stay warm then I would go with PSxPWVC. Also better value for money overall. But not as rakish in style. Maybea the navy colorway is a bit boring in a good way. The grey/cream donegal is certainly more of a statement piece. I personally would not buy a Drake's Raglan in a wild pattern because in addition to the stylized design I would fear they won't age well.

Olive tweed games jacket and fair isle scarf today, both of which I picked up at the last NYC sample sale.

Wow, triple suede outerwear is a bold move. Two suede chores and what looks like a suede overshirt. Hopefully those jackets are lined otherwise I’m not sure how he managed to get out of that outfit 😳

i've heard great things about the Bellief bals from All Blues Co in the UK. they're essentially Drake's raglan clones but are apparently really decent quality

I've purchased a Bellief raglan coat with welt pockets at a heavy discount and even then very much regretted it. The material was very thin and the lining seemed to be made of some sort of polyester which was very noisy with any movement. Maybe these flap pocket coats are different but just a heads up.

Does anyone know if perennial items are ever included in the online sales?

Just speculating, but my experience has been that you'll often see a prior year's version of a perennial item at the archive sale if they've switched to a different maker/vendor for the current season or otherwise refined the design and need to sell through the old stock. So shetlands in useful, classic colors, but numeric sizing instead of alpha sizing, etc.

I bought a navy flannel suit at an archive sale and was surprised the same suit was apparently for sale on the main site at full price, but when the suit I ordered arrived it was clearly from a much earlier collection based on the tag and the proportions (higher buttoning stance, slimmer trousers, etc.). Still happy to have it! But just be aware that there might be slight differences in make/details in "Perennial" items offered at archive prices. That can actually be a good thing sometimes.

IMG_0218.jpeg So, this is the navy donegal raglan. Correct size? Or should I go one larger? This is a 40, and my tts would be 42. Note that the sleeves/cuffs are folded back.

And another fit question, a tougher one. This is the navy pinstripe Games from this season, sold out within a week or so. I studied the sizing chart before ordering online, and got a 44, so one size larger than my tts. Thinking also that I’d wear this with rollnecks a lot.

It is a bit on the larger side I fear. Really on the fence now on keeping it or shortening the sleeves and leaving it as is. It has a bit of an old man vibe now, or an oversized 80s blazer, which I do not mind but just wanted to check if it doesn’t look odd or anything. Thanks!

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
