Is the left vent still stiched closed?

Yeah, sleeves are a bit long.

The pants are pretty good at the front, but something appears to be happening at the back under your jacket.

I'd say there's not enough room at the lower waist/hips (exactly at the point where the pleats gape open). I believe you would benefit from trousers that are slightly looser at the waist and hips, held with braces.

It appears to me that the rise is too short in those trousers creating what you normally see in flat front trousers. Instead of gaping pockets, we have gaping pleats. The shorter rise has the fullness occurring too low thus the gaping. You would probably notice it going away if you really pull your pants but it doesn't look like they'd be comfortable to wear there. There really is no fix as that's what pleated trousers are designed specifically not to do. You can't increase the rise which is ultimately the main problem.

Thanks for the feedback. OTC, you are correct in that the wrinkling goes away and the pleats lay closed when I hike the pants up an inch or so from where the normally sit. I had already noticed this, but unfortunately it's not practical to wear them that high on my waist, since as you mentioned, they are uncomfortable that high. Plus, they won't stay there anyway, at least not without braces like Diaz mentioned. I've always been intrigued by the idea of braces. Maybe now it's time I start seriously considering them, hmm...

Hey everyone, I'm new here! I've owned a few poor-fitting, cheap suits in the past but this is my first attempt at buying a decent, good-looking suit. I actually bought two. The first is a Bar III slim blue Macy's suit that I paid just $200 for and looks great IMO. I'm a fairly skinny guy and this suit looks very good on me.

The other suit I bought is a $300 grey one from a very highly rated tailor in Boston. He made a few alterations and I picked up the suit today. However, I'm just not totally happy with the fit. Namely, the suit seems too long to me and a hair too wide in the shoulders. The tailor insisted that the suit fit well and that the back part should cover my butt and if he brought in the shoulders more it would cause the lapel area to pop out. Eventually he agreed to take off 1/4" from the bottom (he said it would make a visual difference, I'm a little skeptical but decided to trust his judgment) and also bring in the shoulders a bit.

I attached a photo of the suit after the initial tailoring but before the above alterations will be made. What do you guys think? Should I go full speed ahead in making the shoulders a little more narrow and shortening, or was the tailor's initial cut a good one?

tl;dr - does this suit look good on me?

In terms of coat length, because the perspective of that photo is top down it's very hard to judge whether the length is too long or not.

Two rules of thumb:
- does the coat cover your derriere?
- if you have your hands by your side, is the coat approximately where your knuckles are?

If so then I would say the length is about right.

The shoulders look a little wide from the photo, but that could be because you have broad shoulders.

My shoulders are actually pretty narrow so that's why the suit feels a bit wide. As for the angle, sorry! I would take another photo but I already left the suit at the tailor. The suit does cover my butt, but it just feels pretty long. I have a long torso so maybe that is part of the issue.

If you do enough research you'll have your answer. Otherwise, just trust your tailor. Or take better pics and don't be in such a hurry.

not all of us has tons of spare time and money to figure this out. That's why I'm here, since presumably there are some experts in this forum.

Oh, and the tailor is doing this free of charge. Thanks for the thoughtful responses.

You have lower right shoulder, which is common in most men, that causes wrinkles underneath your arm pits in the back. To remedy this, take it to a competent tailor to add shoulder pads.
Any words of wisdom for a suit noobie? Hoping for some suggested alterations. Much thanks!

Jacket might have issue with front and back balance, the front might be a bit short but its hard judging from the pictures. It's okay with the front a bit longer than the back but never shorter than the back. For me the main issue is the pants, it could be that you're sagging your pants that causes wrinkle behind you or your pants seat is not for your build.
Hello, Just received my first Chan. Am looking for feedback. Please ignore tie and shirt choices (not intended to match) ;)

Thanks for the response!

Please forgive my amateur/ignorant question Re: the vents, but yes there's a stitch at the bottom of both vents. Am I supposed to cut that stitch?

Thanks!
