I actually spoke to Ron extensively over that makeup and considered going with him...the only thing that held me back was the fact that the cordovan was not from Horween.

However, Ron has been in the biz for a long time and if he is choosing to work with that shell at all, then it must be good and I trust his judgment.

The most appealing thing about buying boots and shoes through Ron is that he will send you several pairs of his boots/shoes and then make adjustments to the lasts before they are sent to you.

That was what impressed me....that and the vast knowledge that Ron Rider possesses...the guy is essentially a walking shoe encyclopedia. And he's down to earth as well...

I plan on buying some kicks from him in the near future.

Ron Rider and SF GMTO in shell cordovan anyone?

+1 about Ron. I visited his warehouse while I was down in VA and he really took the time to show me around. Great Guy. Keep me posted about the GMTO watchman.

Yes Sir,

Ron Riders pics on the Internet of his shell cordovan creations are one of the main reasons why I'm in the game today.

He was working with the exotic shell hides before the craze over them that exists today.

Rons designs helped the shell game explode, then, unfortunately, his ability to get cordovan from Horween was hindered and the cost went up...

So, for awhile I didn't see any shell designs from him, at least not consistently.

It seems like he's getting back into the game though.

Ron is a shop owner and maker yes, but he really is one of us, meaning that he enjoys the boots...

I'm assuming he does leather as well? I've sent him an email as well. Thanks!

Yes Sir,

All of Ron Riders stuff is actually Blake Rapid construction, which, is supposedly a step up from machine GYW.

If you guys want me to, I can contact RR and ask him what he will do for us.

Let me know...

Yea, I was just saying that's a gmto for the subreddit r/goodyearwelt. One of those dark brown boots with the storm welt should be coming to me any day now.

I'm always interested in a gmto. Maybe there can be some other interested parties as well.

Gotcha.

When you mentioned GYW it was in regards to the actual blog site...understand now.

Yea man, I am down for GMTO. Those last cordovan boot pics were enough to make me a believer.

How about a balmoral boot?

I've got a pair of Carmina DMs in calf and the Inca last is very comfortable if you have a wider forefoot (as I do). The Lowndes on the 348 is narrower.

I have been eyeing some Inca last shoes too but doubtful about the fit. Presently I wear Rain and Forest last and both seems to fit well in UK11. Some heel slips with the Forest last - solved by wearing thicker socks.
But now that you are saying Inca last is comfortable for those with wide forefoot, I probably should just pull the trigger

Have you any experience with Carmina's loafers?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
