I've never tasted vin juane. I need to source something with good typicity.

The retailers that I frequent get a few bottles of Vin Jaune from well-regarded producers like Ganevat once a year, and I stare at them wondering if I should buy one until they're all gone. The problem for me is that I have no idea if I'd like Vin Jaune, and they're priced too high for me to be willing to take a flier. I wish I knew someplace that poured it by the glass.

Looking at BTG lists is a good idea.

To your last post...Lynch is such a good importer. Matt turned me onto him and I don't think I've ever been disappointed in one of Kermit's choices.

I can't recall ever having poured out a non-flawed bottle of a Kermit Lynch wine. The only other importer whose wines I've drunk in significant quantities that I can say that about is Terry Theise (well, I guess Michael Skurnik is technically the importer of Theise's wines; but Theise's name is on the back label, so it amounts to the same thing for me). There are other importers whose wines I tend to like, but none of them have the hit rates that Lynch and Theise have for me.

Back vintage Renaissance has to be the best deal in California cab. Diametrically opposed to spoofy napa cab, long lived, drinking great and available for $50 bucks. The '84 rocks as well.

Finally opened the 2010 Justin Cab I had sitting around. Goddamn it was good. Restored my faith in cabs.

Good news. The William Fevre Chablis 2002 I won at auction were not oxidized. Tasted great, the barnyarddy smell of white burgandy gets me every time. Amazing.

Pretty excited to find this on the shelves of my local store tonight - have a case coming but couldn't resist. This is AP 8. I don't know if the AP numbers for Shaefer spatlese have the same significance as they do with the auslese (any Schaefer experts out there?) but this is really good. So much acidity that it doesn't seem sweet. Amazing to see what will happen to this over time. Must keep hands off...

Picked up a few for tasting tomorrow and the sparkler was just to practice Champs service.

Had the middle one tonight. Wow, great wine for about $17. Just barely off-dry (feinherb one might say), creamy, butterscotch, nutty, apples. Would buy again.
