Pretty sure this is the bespoke/custom script. I think.

These are made by John Lobb St. James - the British bespoke operation, not to be confused with the French bespoke operation or the French-owned British RTW operation.

As I understand it, under the terms of the sale of the Lobb name to Hermes, one of the conditions was they not make bespoke shoes in the UK market, so we've ended up with a very confusing situation all round!

John Lobb (Paris) bespoke have this script on the inside
John Lobb (St James) bespoke have the script from your pair
John Lobb (RTW) have this script for more modern pairs
or
This script for older models

It looks like they have the original trees, which is always nice - they often don't, and it can be a pain finding matching generic trees for bespoke pairs.

I don't know what reaching out to Lobb would achieve - they would probably have the customer info based on the code in the shoes / on the trees, but I would doubt (and hope) they wouldn't pass that on to you. They might tell you when they were made I suppose?

I wouldn't imagine there are any real doubts to authenticity or anything - would be a lot of effort to go to for a pretty niche market.

Very helpful, thanks for the detailed explanation!

Did well on the blazers today. Also picked up some Versace collection trousers that seemed fake so passed on them. No authenticity tag. Eleventy seems NWOT all pockets still shut - no signs of wear. Brooks brother’s black fleece new old stock with tags? Yes please. Derek Rose dressing gown in my size.

@Purplelabel is that a filson bag?

@flipstah funny you find that overcoat. I found out I have to go to Michigan in November for some business meetings. I have to start looking for one of these to look right and survive the cold. Finger crossed I find one tomorrow or soon.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
