1 step closer to selling the thrift obtained Classique 550 (it is a silver faced Sansui 6060 / Sansui 690). The initial purchase price was $20. The case was covered in peeling simulated woodgrain plastic contact paper from the factory. It fooled no one

I peeled the contact paper off and then with the help of a hair dryer removed the plastic layer to reveal the plywood beneath

Changed the bulbs to LEDs in this horrid colour scheme

Changed the bulbs again. Sanded it down in anticipation for staining but I didn't sand well enough and left quite a bit of adhesive residue

Tried staining the aforementioned poorly sanded case and the result was a hot mess. Even if I had resanded and restained it, it still would have looked crappy at best

She looked good in a darkened room though

Solution: Wood Veneer!!! I did this 2 days ago

And here is the finished product. She is just about ready to hit the market with her new walnut veneer case. The only thing I have to do is re-string the tuner cord and maybe run a little brasso on the faceplate. Oh and decide on a selling price

I do much better at charity/church thrifts these days rather than GW, etc. You get a little bit of everything.

Menswear has been non existent but I still try to get out there. On the plus side, I spend more time in housewares.
Meet Ralph, the newest member of our household.

$15, a good cleaning and two hours to recharge Ralph's batteries and he has been working well.

I think that our granite countertops came from matching slabs.

I've seen those robot vacuums from time to time, but never thought to try one out. Just figured our Dyson DC17 Animal would kick its ass as far deep cleaning carpet.
