So here's something I thought you guys might enjoy. Some of you may know that I've been working at a tailoring shop since last year, and one of my jobs is to go through the fabric swatch books and cut out all the old and out of stock goods. Sometimes we get rid of entire books, and so the whole time I've been hoarding them to use as future quilt squares. I've probably got a couple thousand at this point. I also get to take home the left over scraps from the garments we make. This is all top of the line ****, Loro Piana, Holland & Sherry, Zegna, Ariston, Scabal, etc. For Christmas this year, I made my mom my first quilt. The back is made from Scabal flannel pieces and the top is all super high end suiting swatches.

Next one is going to be full Loro Piana cashmere. Now that I've made one, I'm going to try a pattern like this...

Pretty sure I know the answer... But just confirming that any double breasted and pleated suit, regardless of maker is pretty much worthless, right? Especially anything from the 90s?

Short answer: no.

It first started in 1909 in the basement of, you guessed it, Filene's which opened in 1881 in Boston. Downtown Boston has been going through a ton of redevelopment and they ended up doing a major renovation to the Filene's building in 2007 which shut the original basement. I still remember their closing sale.

:cool2:

Funny. I just bought this on a trip to Boston. "NWT", sort of.

(Vintage BB has no Filene's association, but included it b/c it's from the same consignment store and it's cool!)

A normally excellent Goodwill near me has lost its damn mind. Talbott BOCs and Thomas Pink ties for $39.99, about 7 each brand, albeit nice ones, but fuckin' A meng. Most Hermes, recent Zegna, and Borrelli ties I've found there for $1.99, maybe $4.99 if they're feeling frisky. I'd pay $39.99 to know how the hell they come up with this wacky pricing.

Years ago they wouldn't price a tie over $1.99 even NIB.
