Bittersweet though. My grandmother has end stage congestive heart failure and had to go into assisted living. We wanted to help out, so we asked to be considered first if her car was going to be sold. Mom called the other day to say she and my uncle felt my grandmother would have wanted us to have it, and that she had more than enough money to cover the cost of her care.

It's an '09, which was not a great year for the Corolla, but you won't hear me complain.


A photo from my last visit. I may not get to see her again. I'm the oldest grandchild, we spent a LOT of time together. She took me out for lunch almost every Saturday growing up.

And don't forget to peel the membrane off the backs. Most people skip (or don't know) that step, but it is essential for fall-off-the-bone ribs. My last 3 restaurant KM jobs were rib joints.

You are a lucky man. I never knew any of my grandparents. I grew up in California, Germany, Okinawa, and Hawaii. By the time my dad retired from the Army, my grandparents had already passed away. I met them through written correspondence and a few black & white pictures. This is why I insist that my daughter spend as much time with her grandparents as possible. I want her to have the memories that were not available to me.

Its funny how I was so particular about my first Harris Tweed, I wanted it to the greenest, peatiest most vegetable like dyes... just dont find this sort of fabric being made any more but I think its like the green man
