I have a pair of 33 oz. Sosos I'm breaking in and for the first 50 wears, I literally had to slip them on and off, since I couldn't get the buttons working with the jeans. Now, at wear 75, I have three buttons working - major progress.
Damn. Even my 24oz Samurais and The Strike Golds only took a couple of tries and I did it before I wore them. Like @clee1982 I would need a diaper too if it took that long.

I've received both variations, and I've studied the labels, and I think I know the deal. The wadded up ones have white weft, and they are an earlier version. With the next production run, they softened the fabric, gave the weft a yellow/tan stain, and packaged them flat. I believe they are filling orders with the earlier version first, and as sizes are depleted, they start shipping the latter version. So, depending on what size you order and what their remaining stock is, you could get either one.

The crumpled-up version was just their attempt at a marketing gimmick, which must not have gone over very well. IMO, it doesn't harm the quality of the jeans per se, as the creases and folds will disappear and even out in time.

As far as the color, I don't know for sure yet because I haven't washed mine enough to tell, but I think the ones with the white weft will fade to a "clean" blue, and the ones with the tinted weft will fade to more of a "dirty" blue. (Like you, I prefer the tinted version.) I don't know whether the entire jean is tinted, or just the weft yarns.

I don't know what to say about the sizing issues you've had with these because I've never experienced that.

I hope you get all this resolved and wind up with something you love.
This was extremely helpful, thank you. I will bring some of this up to the SA once they get a hold of me. Still no reply.

Indeed the "yellow" pair were softer when I first got them. Odd that this pair might be older. The creases are deeply set. In my comparison pic, you can see the new are also lighter blue despite being brand new.

The tag they put on the back pocket is also faded, with muddy text. I'm beginning to wonder if someone washed (and even dried) these... that would also explain the size issue.

View attachment 2316009 View attachment 2316011 Off topic, but here my Soso 33oz. at 80 wears, zero washes / soaks.

Half way to their 150 wear first wash!

Do I enjoy them? Yes. Would I do it again? No. They’re like wearing a fire hose made in to jeans.

40oz!

Denim of this weight would be tough for anyone to break in, but I would think even more difficult for smaller/lighter guys?

I'm very curious what the CS rep has to say. Keep us informed if you would.
I suppose those creases could be removed by getting them wet and drying them flat.
The new ones look lighter probably because they're not tinted.
I think if someone had laundered those, the cloth tag would have gotten all frayed, but maybe not.
