I got a crotch blowout once. Thought I’d give the ancient Japanese art of Sashiko repair a go. Looked like I was highlighting my taint. Don’t use Sashiko repair on a crotch blowout. Use it on a knee, a pocket, or virtually any other area.
Couldn't disagree more -- I do Sashiko crotch repairs all the time and they look great.

For me, darning is not desirable for crotch repairs because it's so stiff and rigid, and takes a long time to break in (if it ever does).

Not washing the jeans often enough can hasten blowouts too.

This. Wash your jeans. Unless your jeans are cheap mass market denim like 501s -- which can easily tear and/or fray from stress and strain -- blowouts are typically caused by sweat slowly compromising the denim's integrity.

That big corduroy has my interest, huge 10 inch hems reminiscent of vintage Prestons. Very tempted to get one since Preston cords never pop up in my size.
For anyone interested, I ended up going to my local Polo store to try the current lineup of cords. The big corduroy pant is genuinely massive, they’re so big that they sometimes hang off my knees in a way that almost makes the hems look flared. Pretty nice stuff, but I just thrifted a pair of vintage Polo cords in the exact same color, so I held off on them for now.

On the other hand, the current Whitman pant is basically a repro of the vintage Andrew chinos with a flapped coin and back pocket and sewn on cuffs. The fabric on them is a lot more sturdy than my vintage Andrew cords that have a little poly mixed in, probably for softness. I ended up getting a pair in brown, I think these might be nicer than the vintage trouser that they’re based on. Really pleasantly surprised with them.

I was sort of interested in those big cords but from the sounds of it they might be too big. I got a pair of Whitman cords last year and thought they were plenty big.

They’re much bigger than the Whitmans. On my 30 waist Whitmans are about a 8-8 1/2” hem while Big Cords are 10”. I think the Whitmans are literally perfect as far as a chino/cord trouser cut goes.

I wanted to catch that show! Three other things going on last weekend I had to choose from :(

How was it? Love his music...very creative and different from the status quo.

Sorry to break it to you, but you missed the best show I've seen in years. He packed so much into his set, cool covers, minimal Hello Clevelands, and his band was just so damned tight. You should have let the other two go my friend, but maybe there will be a next time

I had 30th HS reunion in town, wedding for fraternity brother out of town, invited to go to the Narrows/Utah with my brother, and the SSimpson concert in MS.

When it rains, it pours. Next few weekends I have...nothing lol.

8 to 8.5 is like old Preston width, count me interested, 10 definitely would be no gamble got to try in person to see type of thing

And by the way if you like 8-8.5 leg opening but not pleat front but flat front instead, not RL but this is a good choice

Another good option for an officer chino style is from Buck Mason. Nice high rise with flap back pockets. I haven't picked this up yet but I've been happy with my other Buck stuff.

These look nice. I've gone with the Buzz Rickson's, but both seem like solid options at the sale price of RRL. (I've owned quite a few from them over the years.)

Yeah, I’m probably going to get a pair of WWII repro chinos soon. Looking at Real McCoys for that one.
