Can't fault D a bit if it puts money in his pocket, but, ya, his account does just about nothing for me. People clowning on him (right or wrong...usually wrong) is often far more entertaining than his contributions in any "debate" on the topic du jour.

Agreed, wish there was just time for both - the in depth discussions with menswear nerds on SF and broader thoughts on twitter for the general populous.

Case in point, one of the last posts of Derek's I saved was basically "here are 8 fabric reference numbers from the H&S Dakota book that I think are really useful, and here is what I pair them with" vs. the most recent "suit vs. sport coat vs. blazer" twitter thread, which I think isn't really useful for the regular SF crowd who likely already knows the distinctions and the hallmarks.

One of the reasons I like SF is that I can get fit/pattern feedback from a master like Despos, or a bunch of specific trouser fabric recs from Derek and what exactly to pair them with. I feel like that is not really something that would be possible on his Twitter thread

His pal UrbanComposition doesn't show up much if at all here either anymore.
I miss both of their content.

Peter is still around, especially if you tag him in something or shoot him a DM. But again, while SF is great for acquiring knowledge its not necessarily great at converting that specialized knowledge into brand partnerships, writing/photography gigs, or frankly expanding your audience reach.

So, while I miss his content here, I certainly get it...

I need to get on Twitter so that I too can get gigs and brand partnerships. I haven't gotten a single one since I joined SF 10+ years ago! 🤬

Those take place on Instagram. Twitter is more just rabble rousing at its worst and education at its best. There are a lot of National Socialists on twitter too.

Question for this crowd about tote bags. I've used cheap versions of them for shopping and these days, I'm often slinging my filson briefcase over my shoulders as I would a tote, mostly because I bring the dog to work with me so easier to have both hands free..

I like the idea of a tote as something larger but not a back pack, so I can carry it like a brief case but also sling it over my shoulders. I woudln't do this that often if wearing a sport coat/suit.

For those of you who use them, do you like their functionality better than a casual briefcase and backpack?

Do you travel on planes with them (I usually use a messenger bag, so I would think a tote would be more useful)?

Finally suggestions on nice ones with laptop section. I admit I like the mismo one (saw @emptym link to their backpacks in another thread)...wish it wasn't so pricey though.

I use a Filson tote without a zipper and it is great for a Do-All but doesn't do any 1 thing great. If I were to use it more like a briefcase, I would get one with a zipper and some form of a divider would be helpful. I got the Filson for less than $100 to see if I would use it but since I started WFH, I only use it for certain travel.

If I start returning to an office, I would end up getting something from Frank Clegg. I love the suede/leather options but a lot more than even Mismo.

Thanks. I looked at Clegg last night. Yeah, way out of my price range.

Do you use the Filson for air travel? I like the idea of a tote, easy to access, roomier than a a messanger bag or briefcase. I guess stuffing it under the seat might be harder given how tight spaces are on planes these days.

Yea, I have used the tote for air travel stuffed with a bulky fleece and it still fits under the seat. Another challenge is that there is no interior zipper pocket so items could fall out so you may need some sort of secondary pouch. While I am being critical, I still use the bag and got it for like $90 which we decent when shifting from a backpack to a tote bag.

I’m pro tote bag but use it for very casual stuff.

I think Porter Yoshida is probably where you’d like to look. Maybe Masterpiece carried by No Man Walks Alone.
