That promocode doesn't work.

Call Jcrew there is a Card member promo they will give you instead for 25% off. Just did it. I am normally an 11.5d on Barrie but figured I would try 11 in a chukka... wear thin socks. On all my barrie and Tru , I can wear thin to thick wool socks. So might get lucky.

Keyword there being 'card member'. I don't have a JC card so can't get the code.

Welp, was looking forward to joining the Alden cordovan crew tonight. J Crew PCT boots I ordered in November were delivered today. Box was marked 8, but after unboxing them and giving them the once over I realized they looked really big, checked inside to see the boots themselves were marked 11.

Back on the wait list, expected delivery now the middle of May. Heavy sigh . . .

Sad to hear of this incident ... hope that it doesn't happen too often.
My pair is also part of the batch planned for May.

Well, after getting a pair of suede boots from Leather Soul and some ranger moccs from Need Supply at the start of the month I wasn't planning on buying any more shoes for a while. I broke that pledge today when I ordered a pair of #8 LHS. I figured I may as well do it now before the price increase.

A lot of newer posters seem concerned that various cordovan models may seem too "dressy" for their wardrobes... My advice is try some of these "dressier" Aldens with your denims, chinos, and other "casual" ensembles. You will be surprised as how good the results can look.

Shell cordovan isn't a dressy material anyway, so I'm not sure what most people are so concerned about.

On the phone with J. Crew now . . . the SA is not aware of any code that would give people 25% off Aldens, cardmember or no. And, she tells me that the "helloworld" code is only available in Canada. So, fitchottie, I'd say you may have benefited from their mistake!

I spoke to Amanda... She found the code for me.

I don't really agree with this - cordovan, made into dress shoes, is as dressy as any other dress shoe leather. Some of my most worn cordovans (9016, BB wingtips, color 8 LHS, ravello tassels) are undeniably dressy. However, cordovan, made in casual styles, makes a great "smart casual" leather.

I agree completely.
I wear NSTs with raw denim without too much trouble.
(Both Color 8 and black shell)

I had this same thought when I was contemplating picking up a few pairs of shells before the price increase.

With me, it's not about shell looking dressy but the shoe itself. The niche I'm trying to fill is more of a semi-casual one which is why I thought the chukkas and PTB's would be great. Those captoe color 8 boots and black calfskin chukkas should work out great for me though. I just have to get used to all the lacing on the captoes vs the minimal lacing on 2 eyelet chukkas.
