I have noticed in your pictures where you have the mirror in front of your shoes that the toes of the soles almost always look completely flat.  In other words, the common wear that many people either choose to live with, or they put toe taps on to prevent, doesn't seem to exist on your shoes.  Obviously there is alot of variance in the wear in that area depending on people's gait, walking style, etc., but to see almost no toe wear at all is unusual.  What is your secret?

am i the only one that thinks the modified last makes everything look like an orthopedic grandpa shoe?

In speaking with Alden retailers, I am left with the impression - at least from their vantage point - that men wear the modified only if they have to. This appears to be true for some - but not all.

A few years back I inquired of a model on the modified and the retailer - a learned retailer - once he learned a thing or two about my Alden collection (on various non-modified lasts), stopped just short of prohibiting me from buying it. I did not end up buying it. I've always remembered his response as curious if nothing else.

Some really seem to like it -whether the fit, or looks, or both. That is great.

On looks alone, it is not for me.

You are never too young for tassels. I bought my first pair when I was 25. They are definitely more mature than pennies, but there are always occasions for a little bit extra maturaity.

Just received a pair of J Crew tan LWBs that I snagged for $300 new. I already have an identical pair, but I can't resist a good deal. Finding a diamond in the rough is now more satisfying than buying at full retail, which has almost lost me anyway given where prices are at and the number of pairs I have.
