can anyone compare the Alden Roy boots to something like say, chucks or vans sizing? never had a shoe like this before (have owned only 1 pair of dress shoes all my life since i was a freshman in high school, and even those were from some wholesale shop in downtown LA.) any help would be appreciated

Hello

My first post here. Just got this pair of aldens from ebay for casual wear.

Have to get some polish for them since their bit beaten up. Have been looking for some saphire polishes but I don't know what color to choose(medium brown, dark brown, mahongy or burgundy). Any advises? Or should I choose something completely different?

thanks

Congratulations and welcome to the family. Those look brown. I would go medium brown unless you wish to darken them a little or you think you may need help to hide some blemishes in which case dark brown.

Wow! So nice! I'm definitely making my way back to more black shoes after being brainwashed by the SF think. I'm putting some black shell cordovan longwings on the list.

When it comes to black longwings, I'm torn between shell or pebble grain calf. I don't have any pebble grain shoes as I generally don't love the look, but it seems pretty classic on that particular model and color. Right now I only have 2 pairs of black shoes and no black shell, just Grenson for Paul Stuart wholecuts and EG wingtips (Malvern on the 82). I really liked the Alden longwings in shell on the Grant last for the Black Fleece line.

Pebble grain calf can look great on longwings, particularly brown longwings. They tend to patina in interesting ways.

I think that, but plain toe, might be what I target next. I'll probably end up deciding in the next 2-36 months.
