Pre-order #4 from 2023 landed last week, but with all the rain I couldn't get any decent photos. These Barrie Cigar Shell Longwings come from Sherman Bros and feature a 360 reverse welt, brass eyelets, and Commando soles. Not sure if I wanna keep the Commando soles or send them in to get leather soles, but the shade of Cigar on these are stunning! The combination of Cigar and Antique welt/edges really pop!

As I was photographing the Cigar LWB, UPS delivered these Whiskey Shell Wingtip Boots from TSM! Antique 360 reverse welt and matching edges on double oak soles. These are my fifth pre-order from 2023 to arrive this year. Love the look of this boot on Barrie and with the 9 tonal eyelets, these will get plenty of wear heading into Spring! Congrats on everyone else who already received their pairs!

Thanks for verifying there's no wedge/shell options. I was hoping for something like Brogue's Traveler in shell. I ordered the Leffot Hoodoo instead, but they emailed and said my size was actually out of stock. I ordered the Snake Oil Provisions Wick last night, hoping they actually have it.

Is there an Alden SMU page or group anywhere? I've got an idea in mind and a retailer who is on board if I can get 12 (including myself and likely an employee at said store).
Nothing official but if you put it out here you’ll get some bites I’m sure. I believe there’s a Facebook group as well or used to be.

So here's what I'm proposing:

Trubalance last
Perforated cap-toe boot (though open to non-perf as well)
Reverse tobacco chamois
Brass hooks and eyelets
Flat Welt
Neocork Sole

Depending on where the interests lie I might also (or instead if I get zero traction) propose a truabance tanker (split-toe) with similar specs.

Would probably look better with 360 PSR, IMO.

I'll try and get some next time I wear them, but since I'm only two years in they've got a long way to go. Though I do have some pics of an amazing pair i found a could years ago here; the owner might still be around. PTB C8 after fresh resole:

Amazing!

Full range of Alden at its best. And when they are at their best, no one, at any price point, does shell better.

Sure beats paying $1700+ for Color 8 Viberg Service Boots :deadhorse:

Funny you would say that. No one complains about, well everything, like many on the Viberg thread and I am always amused when the complaints go to Viberg shell prices and how no one will pay those prices. Yet they always sell out. But I must admit that I was tempted to add myself to those complaints when I excitedly went to the site after getting the email about the C8 Service Boot. I was floored to see it priced at $1,700. It was more expensive than their $1,650 Old Bronze Halkett. For the first time I thought ‘geez Viberg, what are you thinking’? $1,700 for a basic C8 SB seems a bit over the top.

So yes, certainly much better than that. But regardless of price, those are simply 2 amazing pickups. Congrats!

I am a huge fan of neocork soles. they seem indestructible, and I have no issues with them in the rain. My go to beater boots are color 8 indy on neocork and they're complete champs. Would love to see how neocork looks on a C8 perf cap toe; I think it should be on more boots.
Alden of Carmel ran a C8 perf captoe (barrie) on neocork about 7 years ago. It was my design. Didn't sell well from what I remember.
