Van seems to be tricky and historically I went up 1/2 in width over Barrie. For me, that was a mistake. I now size the same as Barrie/TB and with normal socks, it’s a perfect fit.




Alden calls it Old Bronze. It is a unique color and the way it changes based on the lighting is sublime. Unfortunately I think it was a one-off for Horween/Alden and will not likely be offered again for the foreseeable future.

How is the sizing like for LHS loafers for people with wide feet? Brannock was measured E but Barrie in D width fits just fine for me. any hope of me getting into a LHS?

Stumbled onto the SF this month and fortunate to grab my grail boots shortly after. Indy Color 4 in Trubalance. Soooo comfortable.

question about whiskey shell, is it similar to ravello or is it noticeably lighter in color?

Happened to see these photos online. Does anyone know what color shell are they? Green?? Never seen before.

They call it old bronze. Kind of a wierd olive that looks a lot better in person. Apparently they had some issues in finishing, and this was the end result. Most likely won't see them again is my guess. You'll see them on Ebay for $3000 a pair soon enough, lol.

Color of course varies per run from Alden. In general, Whiskey is a light brown shade of Shell Cordovan, with more of a yellow/tan undertone to it. To my knowledge, technically there is no longer any true Whiskey Shell Cordovan as it is now all Bourbon Shell Cordovan due to Horween having to change their ingredients for environmental considerations (so I have heard). Bourbon tends to have a more bronze kind of tone to it vice the more traditional yellow undertone that Whiskey has. Alden has continued to market the shoes as Whiskey Shell Cordovan. Ravello has traditionally been a medium brown shade with more of a red undertone to it. Note that Ravello is an exclusive shade of Shell Cordovan to Alden.

So, to answer your question, Whiskey (Bourbon) Shell Cordovan should be lighter and should have less red in it.

In all the rare shell hype, I think Cigar remains my favorite. So damn classy, ages well, goes with a lot of clothing, and over time exposes interesting mottling.
