February: Walking in a Winter Wonderland (in Aldens)

Gentlemen, I wanted to kick off February’s monthly topic. This is our second monthly topic, but our first seasonal themed topic this year. Take all the time that you need to think of your personal response, as you got all month to work on a post that suits you and captures your thoughts, so no need to rush to post a response today!

Living in San Diego, this is probably the post that I am the least equipped to discuss, but the topic of the month is what is your three recommended Alden's for wearing in the Winter and why. Do you prefer Boots on Commando or Mini-Lug or Double Waterlock or are you wearing Double Leathered Balmorals? I am curious what your favorite pair is for the winter (not just sole)!

Please reply to this post to make your responses easier to see. Thank you so much and I very much look forward to seeing everyone’s thoughts (and I am sure discussions) this month!

-Mike

COMMANDO sole!!!!
I happen to like Suede and any reverse chamois for really lousy weather, but for snow it has to be commando. If snow gets too deep for commando, I must admit I go with my Rancourt shearling lined calf high boots. But you all saw me snowplowing in Indys on commando.........I am one of those who still get "spooked" wearing shell in snow/slush even though my gut says they will fare better than calf...

No current contribution for me today but in responding to @jjschube on the Harrison splits, I came across a photo that illustrates how much I appreciate Alden's (mostly) execution of the NST design. Just as close to perfect as they come......

Some love Wings, I love Splits. And while the middle one's get the most love on this forum, it's the 2 C8's that I personally consider the most special. The flat welt Barrie is so versatile and gets worn regardless of outfit and the antique is the unlined verson from AoC (with eyes added) and they are so comfortable and a perfect match with denim.

Happy Hump Day Gents.......

Much thanks @James1051. I like C4 but think the shade is just perfect for the NST. That is a tremendous score and I look forward to seeing the pic’s when they land. Congrats!

These Ravello 2x2 boots survived travels through the winter snowpocalypse last week but unfortunately couldn’t survive the great speed hook debacle of 2021. I’m not sure I trust anyone locally so likely send off to Bedos, Aram, or Wyatt & Dad to repair. I don’t want to risk losing a pair with a return to Alden.

Beautiful boots, but this speed hook thing seems to be a real issue. At least for the people on this forum

Yes. It’s a real problem. Fortunately this forum has given people the heads up and work around. Seems silly that the great retailers have to make things right...though I know why they do as a smaller margin is > no margin with a return.

It seems to be impacting shell boots the most, right? Anyone feel free to chime in if it is happening on their other leathers.
