Well it's a birthday for Mrs. smfdoc and we are going to a nice steakhouse. The waiters come to your table and everything. Like I said, nice. I really see no reason to take her out and I told her "We have already celebrated that same number 5 times. Why do I have to giving you a present?" She did not seem amused. Oh well, the occasion means a nice blue windowpane suit and a choice of shoes. I wanted some #8 choices so I cleaned up the cap toe and the Banka Bal from Brogue. Let me know which pair I should choose. I have not worn either of them in quite some time so they are due for an outing.

I vote for color 8 with a blue windowpane suit, but that's just me.

I’d try the cap toe first & go with the broguing & antique edge if the cap toe-suit combo weren’t sufficiently celebratory.

First, I’m am disappointed that Mrs. smfdoc did not appreciate your humor. I have one coming in a few weeks and was reading your post and hoping for pointers. Knew it was a longshot as Mrs. shawnc doesn’t have a sense of humor about these things either. While I love the antique model, to me, for the occasion and stated outfit, not even a close call. Go with the first pair.

I’d say the plainer cap, so as to compliment rather than compete with the pattern on the suit.

I'm pretty pedantic. I think the cap toe go better with a suit, while the brogues, being less formal, would be reserved for trousers and an odd jacket. In today's society anything more than flip-flops is considered dressed up, so I doubt anyone would bat an eyelash at the brogues with a suit.

Have a good time and enjoy your shoes.

Well, the Bankas won out. Barely. Thanks for pitching in.
