Sweet ravello SWs, what retailer?

Where do you guys stand on black shell LWBs? I'm tempted to pick up a pair but they feel a little enigmatic to me.

Going with the classic whiskey LWBs today.

I don't currently own any but the idea is definitely growing on me. The other day I was wearing navy she'll LWBs and in the twilight they basically looked black, and I thought that it was a pretty badass look. Maybe in a year or so I'll spring for a pair.

There is nothing I would apply every few wears other than a brush

What about saphir renovateur if you live in a dry desert climate? "Also use the Saphir Renovateur for moisturizing a pair of shoes whose natural patina you do not want to change. The Renovateur does not contain any pigments but will provide deep, essential nourishment to your favorite shoes."

i can not speak to desert conditions...if you are wearing the outdoors 8 to 10 hours a day then perhaps more care is needed....however i would look to bick 4 and still think treatment every few wears is over kill.

Dry conditions aren't going to significantly warrant more moisturizing. After all, we're talking about water moisture levels, and dryness in leather is an oil issue. Of much more concern in a dusty environment is the embedding of fine particles in the grain, especially in the creases. Your best care would be to religiously and thoroughly wipe and brush them.

So I came across these two pairs of Alden shoes which have been sitting in their box for close to a decade. I can't seem to find much about them online, so I thought I would ask the styleforum crew what you think? Does Alden still make these? The model numbers are 551 and 957. I've linked an imgur album, which also includes a random pair of vintage Italian sneakers I came across the other day. I don't know anything about those either... Anyway, I appreciate any conversation that spurs from this. Surely it'll help in the future to the next person who comes across either pair. http://imgur.com/a/B1c0a
I'm not good at telling lasts, so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the 957 is just a 2146 made with calfskin instead of shell cordovan.

The boxes state Custom Bootmaker, which I believe is used by The Shoe Mart. You could contact them and they may be able to give dates and other information about those models.

Funny, I just pulled the trigger on a pair of black shell lwb's yesterday. So I guess i'd be in the pro camp.

Put me in the "pro" camp. In fact, I have an Alden (lower picture) and a vintage Florsheim (upper picture) pair as well. I have shell LWBs in black, #8, blue and am awaiting a pair in natural shell.
