The fine line between dressing like an old man and a sharp GQ/Esquire guy.

I wear tweed, bowties, cardigans, and numerous old man staples. If ever I look into the mirror and feel that I look above my age, I simply put on wayfarers and ingest cocaine. Nasally, of course. I am of the Dixie persuasion, however, so I'm not certain this solution is practicable for Yankees and foreigners. Nor do I particularly care.

Ha,ha... as I'm already old this isn't what concerns me. What does concern me is that I look like a pillar box in almost all rtw suits.

Also, when shopping, any eye for detail and fit seems to evaporate. What with the thrill of slipping into something new, and the sales assistant leaping around, I fail to see things clearly. It's also become apparent that what I think I see through a mirror and what I actually witness in a photograph can be two different things. Other than having a split personality, I have no idea why this is. The photograph (for me) always gives the most accurate picture.

I've probably gone way off the OP's original point, for which I apologize.

My other favorite is the classic "I'm a power lifter" explanation for why one can't seem to wear pants that fit.

I endorse this statement.

At some point the average guy has his hormones drop. That leads to muscle loss. Add in the average lazy middle age + guy and you drop even more muscle mass.

You also get a little shorter. Blame gravity.

You can counter muscle loss with working out. It'll also help your hormone levels.

Age? Some guys have this happen much earlier then others.

Any reason to believe that taller and fatter people die at an earlier age? It's always those wily little men who try to **** everything from 8 to 80 that live past 100.

Don't know any reason taller would die earlier. Maybe hitting their heads on things

Going out for a “fancy” night out on the town? Try a sharply tailored jacket in a dark neutral fabric, like this charcoal wool by Loro Piana. Layer it with a matching vest – worn open here – for added warmth and visual interest. As a general guideline, eveningwear should have a darker, more subtle color palette – which is why I like the pop of these white jeans (which I wear year-round). Charcoal peak-lapel jacket +waistcoat (part of 3-piece suit), and black/white mini-gingham shirt all by Michael Andrews Bespoke (custom made). White jeans by Helmut Lang (size 34). Brown alligator belt by Ralph Lauren Purple Label. White linen pocket square cut & sewn myself. Penny loafers by Ferragamo. -thestyleblogger.com -http://www.thestyleblogger.com/date-...ayers-of-fall/
