Did they explain why?
Some say that neutral polish (eg from Saphir) would strip the shoe of the color.
Therefore rule of thumb is always use the color closest to the shoes color.

I’d use neutral cream, albeit from boot black, and don’t notice a stripping of color. Yes there was some coloring on the cloth but nothing serious. Maybe prolonged use might result in it.

I suppose this happens with patina leathers, also a reason I'm not a fan, rather than with solid ones. There are recent posts in the Crockett & Jones thread showing a comparison of the same leather (Tan Scotch Grain) treated with a coloured versus a neutral cream, where I clearly prefer the result from the latter.

Yup I do not like the cru leather that Saint Crispin's uses. If at all possbile I will get veg-tanned leather or suede from them.

Since I did a black boot instead of a second pair of black shoes, I still need to do a second pair of black shoes (to be worn in a sportcoat level of formality). I'm thinking either these in black hatch grain or just a perforated cap toe (not a semi brogue, just a perforated cap) using black Horween hatch, and will take input because I'm having a hard time deciding.

Not a fan of this odd style, would stick with a classic punched cap Oxford in box calf instead.

Visible Pick Stitching on Lapels and Pockets

  • It’s a mark of quality and craftsmanship

  • I like it when it’s subtle

  • I don’t like visible stitching

  • Doesn’t matter to me
