I was on a “beach” today. I wore shell saint Crispins, Dior jeans and a bespoke sport coat. You know, none of my good stuff.

What about Norman Vilalta, Ramon Cuberta, Cuervo shoemaker? Trained under Pitu Cunillera, Bemer, John Lobb Saint James and have been working with people who also worked in the industry doing freelance work for the biggest brands and I would consider them great shoemakers.

I recall Ramon Cuberta moving out of the Born neighbourhood into Sant Gervasi into a very very small workshop/shoowroom and he then moved out of Barcelona city.

The now retired Pitu Cunillera:

I for example wanted to learn from him but he was retired from teaching at the time I was exploring options and I missed my opportunity(Grew an interest in shoemaking very late). I asked around and there wasn't really anyone willing to teach because of the work required to do so while at the same time working full time as a shoemaker(bespoke or orthopedic). I was recommended someone but I never contacted because at the time I couldn't afford to work full time and also learn and didn't want to bother anyone.

My only option then was to look for shoemaking courses like the ones from Carré Ducker to dive in and see if I really liked shoemaking as much as I thought(Obviously a single course of days doesn't turn you into a shoemaker). Once I had the money earned and saved for the occasion this year for one of those 12 day courses...covid showed up and my plans went in flames.

Meanwhile I've been reading this book which I bought a copy of to learn at least the theory:

I guess it may be a fools goal or dream but I consider myself very passionate but listening to one of Daniel Wegan's interviews in Shoegazing it really struck me that maybe I just like shoes, not shoemaking.

Yes, they are great professionals, although they started with custom shoes and ended up with RTW series ........
This is a made-to-measure shoe thread, therefore it has nothing to do with making shoes for the gallery or in series
Cuberta uses a 3D system to take measurements and design the last ......... that in custom shoes ......... It is a good system if you master each and every one of the operations of the made-to-measure footwear but if you depend on someone it becomes a problem, you see one thing and the designer another, it is complicated ...
It is important to learn with someone who knows the trade but not essential.

It is never too late to learn, I am learning to program now .......
Practice with your book, look on the internet, copy, design, draw ...... I encourage you to try it if you really like to make shoes and if you need advice or help I will be happy to do it.
Manuel.

I may be in the minority in this regard, but I find ultra exotics well.. too exotic. I find them restrictive as to when, where, and how you use them. I've seen guys garner some eyebrow raising glances when worn casually. I'm also not a proponent of laying out an obscene amount of money for a pair of shoes I can only wear within defined parameters.

Then there is the issue that you have no idea whether you'd like the way they look on your feet or not.

Saying all that, I have seen some beautiful dark browns and blacks. I think I saw a pair of Clevs that were gorgeous. Lizard, as well, looks amazing in a darker persuasion. I believe I saw a pair made by a Japanese artisan that made me consider using it. Although, that was only a consideration not an actual commission.
have the same problems - sometimes I am amazed by the look of the exotics but can't see me wearing them unless I am becoming the preacher in a mega church.
